Vague gets fresh: best WordPress design 2009 contest
That’s quite a long post title. But taking things from the back of a napkin and the recesses of mind (the bits that go ‘ooh, that’s quite a good idea’ and don’t get beaten into submission by the slightly-right-of-facist left brain) isn’t like a microwaveable meal.
Design takes time. And even when you think it’s ready, you realise that you left the vital bit out and you have no garnish. Or, to continue the food metaphor, you’ve made a basic error and now have food poisoning of the aesthetic variety.
Vague Suggestions wasn’t and isn’t a meta-blog. Process is consciously absent from the content, with the exception of some helpful navigational hints. But when Jemima and I sat down in a pile of paper and began to scan, photoshop and HTML our way out of the ready-made Wordpress themes (she did the last one – I have no idea what’s going on with code), there was one overarching aim that dictated a process: we wanted it to look different.
So it’s exciting to hear that Fresh-e-ventures recognise process, design and craft within the parameters of WordPress. Even more so that they’re acknowledging blogs – new and old – in their 2009 Best WordPress Design Contest. And finally, that Vague Suggestions is entered for it.
