If only Beyonce had taken up smoking...

"Beyonce Knowles lived on a diet of water with cayenne pepper to lose weight for her role in movie Dreamgirls. The 24-year-old star lost 20 pounds, to play the super-svelte Deena Jones, the lead singer of The Dreamettes - a 1960s style group, loosely based on Diana Ross and The Supremes." - [www.concreteloop.com]

In all seriousness though, well done! Although I think it must be said that you have nothing to worry about. I can sympathise though; myself having twice taken up smoking (after quitting) in order to manage those pesky pounds. Who can guess the rationale of the woman when it comes to her weight?

Can we ever be the Uber-Mensch the Spectacle beckons us to be?
As we walk up the never ending escalator of self-improvement, we find that once you reach one floor you must immediately ascend to the next.
Smoke less, drink less, weigh less!
Buy more, earn more, want more!
As we improve more toward, their, vision of perfection
-physical perfection- We lose the ability for true reflection. The smoke and mirrors of fashion and beauty are the opiates of our masses. As we scamper around the Hamster wheel of consumer desire we don't have the time, energy, or inclination to care about fascist police or starving Africans.
They had to make environmentalism 'cool' before we'd sit up and give a f**k; and even then we haven't properly cottoned on to the fact fact they'd shifted the onus onto us, the only people who can't do anything to stop it!
So it is with smoking. They tell us not to be the people we are, so we change, but that's not good enough, so we change again, etc etc... Until we lose sight of the person we were, because we're so involved becoming the person they want us to be. The person they tell us we should be.
So don't let the bastards grind you down and...
Clean up your lungs,
Forsaking your belly,
Ignore all the bullshit,
You see on the telly,
Because rather often we like,
Our partner's quite chubby.
